How to Overcome Our #1 Fear

I’ve recently delved into the Secrets of the Ancient course which is a self-study from The Sacred Science. The course is packed with ancient healing wisdom from a variety of indigenous elders and healers, enthnobotanists and scientists.

 

One of the bonuses was an interview with Don Miguel Ruiz which led me to revisit his book The Four Agreements. In The Four Agreements, Ruiz mentions the biggest and most common fear that humans have is taking the risk to be alive and expressing who we really are. Basically “Just being ourselves is our biggest fear”.

 

Why? Because we’ve lived, listened to, and made agreements based on the beliefs, opinions, and ideas of others and society instead of trusting our own innate knowing and wisdom. We’ve agreed to these beliefs and opinions and allowed them to turn into untruths such as “I’m not good enough” or “that’s not possible”. Then we judge and reject our true selves in order to continue to be pleasing and right to others.

 

How do you overcome this fear and learn to just be you? Fully accept yourself!

 

Self-acceptance is key to releasing fears and self doubt and committing to the idea that “This is what I am. This is what I believe.” Self-acceptance also means accepting others as they are because what we project onto others is simply what we see in ourselves.

 

What steps can we take to truly accept ourselves?

 

Forgiveness
Let past mistakes and the need for perfection go! Forgive yourselves and others for we are all doing the best we can. And once you forgive, declare it is done now and forever!

 

Celebrate Yourself Everyday
You are a beautiful being born from pure Divine love and light. There is so much to celebrate from the seemingly small to large victories. This could be naming 3 things that you love about yourself, light a candle for yourself, spend alone time in meditation or in the tub, or dancing freely. Choose whatever brings you pure joy!

 

Mirror Work
Challenging and deep yet transformative and profound. Look into your own eyes in the mirror and see what bubbles up from your soul. You may even feel drawn to ask your inner self for answers about how to accept yourself. Start with 5 minutes twice daily and work your way up to 15. If you feel called, journal afterwards so you can read and reflect.
